Its been awhile since I’ve been able to review some shoes. So I have a feeling this will be a pretty short one. Also the fact that I am on vacation and a Margarita is calling my name when this is finished will add to its brevity. So, I was lucky enough to get in on the first batch of the new Altra Instinct 1.5’s. I’ve been super pumped about these shoes coming out for awhile now. I was able to see a pic of them a bit earlier since I sell them, but stock photos don’t do shoes justice in my opinion. I want to see what the look like laying around on someone’s floor. Anyway, there hasn’t been a lot of pics of these out on the internet (and I had been looking). LOOKS When I got them in the mail and I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised on the look of them. They are a complete departure from the looks of the originals. For me, that’s awesome. I like some pop in my shoes and these deliver. Another obvious addition is the branding on the lateral side of them. Now when you are wearing your Altras, no one will have to ask, “Hey who makes those shoes?” It is pretty obvious. I’ve noticed that a lot of shoe manufacturers are going with this approach of putting their brand name across the shoe. Well at least with the brands I sell (Salomon, Scott, & Altra). I am not against that, just an observation. That’s all. PERFORMANCE
Here’s where this article will be brief… While they completely blew up the outside of the shoe, they didn’t change a thing on the inside. The fit is the same awesome, roominess your feet feel in love with on the originals. These shoes were built with your feet in mind and just letting them well, be feet. No real support, no structure. I am a firm believer in building yourself as a runner from the feet up and that’s what these shoes allow you to do. I am so glad they didn’t mess with a good thing. With that, I will give one knock on these shoes. I noticed this with the originals also, but when the soles get wet, they are pretty slippery. After about 100 miles, this slippery feeling went away, but its there and worth pointing out. Ok, so that’s about it. These shoes are awesome and they are just a more in your face version of the originals. Short. Sweet. Fantastic.
